Dawn of The Planet Of The Apes:
Apes. Together. Strong.
This is hands down my favourite film of 2014.
Caesar is one of my favourite characters of all time, ever since his humble beginnings in Rise I have loved him. So the Simian flu has basically wiped out humankind from the surface of earth. Without power, food or some kind of infrastructure humans can’t survive. Apes don’t need power, they don’t need lights, they don’t need anything. This film is highly entertaining, pretty fun and has some very touching moments throughout the film. Somehow whenever apes are involved (films, animations or documentaries) I always get way too connected and way too emotional over everything about them. I know Caesar will thrive and becomes a god like ape among his people and will be worshiped for generations to come like a messiah, but throughout this film I had no idea what was going to happen to Caesar.
Koba (considered as Caesars right hand man) is an interesting character. I didn’t consider him a ‘‘villain’’ at the start of the film, he only wanted what was best for his kind and has a traumatizing past involving humans and an animal testing lab. I don’t blame him for hating humans but throughout this film he descends into evil and turns against his leader.
If you have not watched Rise of the Planet of the Apes or Dawn I highly recommend them.
Guardians of the Galaxy:
Space and shit.
I didn’t know much about these characters when this was announced, but as soon as I heard about them I looked into Guardians and read up on them. They are kind of the like the B team compared to the Avengers, but I think I preferred this film to the first Avengers movie. Star-Lord is my favourite character (I love Chris Pratt) and the soundtrack has to be one of the best in film history.
Captain America: The Winter Soldier:
Marvel knows best.
This is how to make a Captain America film. Its action packed right from the outset. The antagonist is one of my favourite Marvel characters and I can’t wait to see what else they do with him in future films.
The Hobbit: The Battle of Five Armies:
Why is Legolas in these movies!
As soon as I read the book I have patiently been waiting for ‘The Battle of Five Armies’. A lot of people have said these films are over bloated and stretched out for no reason, but I am big Middle-Earth fan and I liked these films. Some things annoyed me though. I didn't like how they handled Smaug in the first act it just felt a bit meh, The closing scene of 'Desolation of Smaug' where Smaug says ''I am fire, I am death'' then blackness. That was the perfect way to end the film but then a year after (Spoiler) we see Smaug destroying the town annnnd he's dead, shot down by Bard, I wanted more of Smaug! That guy Alfred was useless and annoyed me, he wasn't funny and had more screen time than most of the other Dwarfs for some reason.
Interstellar:
Do not go gentle into that good night.
I have no idea what happened in this film but I liked it.
Edge of Tomorrow:
Live. Die. Repeat. Watching this film.
This film brought something new to cinema. Its based of the manga ‘All You Need Is Kill’. This film has a good mixture of humour and action. When Cruises character gets into the swing of things, the fight scenes are just awesome to watch.
St. Vincent:
Bill Murray.
